It’s thrilling to see the structure take shape, transforming from blueprints into the beginnings of our future home. Every beam, wall, and pour of concrete brings us one step closer to building the vibrant Jewish community we’ve been dreaming of.
And we're on track to move in to our new home in early 2027! A few homes are still available in our growing community.

Watch the Magic: Our Groundbreaking, Our Story

The Berkeley Moshav community is still buzzing with excitement over our groundbreaking celebration on March 23rd – it was a moment we've all been anticipating, and it couldn't have been better!

What is Berkeley Moshav Jewish cohousing? We are a modern Jewish village with kids, seniors, and everyone in between. In Berkeley Moshav, neighbors won't be strangers – they'll share cozy communal meals 2-3 times per week (including Shabbat), enjoy many shared activities, and celebrate the rhythms of Jewish life together. The future residents are creating the community, and we invite you to join us!

Our building, currently planned for an early 2027 move-in, consists of 36 condo-style homes ranging in size from 660 to 1,560 square feet. Each household will own a private home – complete with their own kitchen, living space, bathrooms, and bedrooms – while also enjoying shared spaces like a large yard, garden, communal kitchen and dining area, and rooms for crafts, music, and quiet gatherings. Berkeley Moshav also has a fourth floor "Havdalah Terrace" for community gatherings, informal events, and more. We are really excited that this intentional design will foster meaningful relationships among neighbors.

How Cohousing Transforms Family Life

What if raising a family didn’t have to feel so isolating? A recent article from NPR highlights how cohousing is helping families find the support they need—whether it’s a neighbor stepping in to help, kids growing up with built-in playmates, or parents feeling less alone in the challenges of raising children.

For members of Daybreak Cohousing in Oregon, Rachel and Chris Damgen, cohousing made all the difference. “We would not have had a third child if we hadn't been here," Rachel shares, explaining how knowing neighbors were always there to lend a hand gave them the confidence to grow their family.

Beyond just helping parents, cohousing creates deep intergenerational bonds. Older neighbors become like surrogate bubbies and zaydes, passing down family traditions, playing games with the kids, and forming meaningful connections that enrich everyone’s lives. In a world where generations are often disconnected, cohousing brings people together in a way that feels natural and fulfilling.

At Berkeley Moshav, we’re bringing this same vision to life with a Jewish twist! We're creating a vibrant cohousing community where families, kids, and individuals of all ages can thrive with the support of neighborly bonds rooted in Jewish culture and values.

Serving Chesed, One Pot of Soup at a Time

20 members of Berkeley Moshav rolled up their sleeves and came together at a Member’s home to make soup for our unhoused neighbors. In just one afternoon, the group prepared enough soup to feed 120 people through the Berkeley-based grassroots organization Consider the Homeless.

At Berkeley Moshav—a Jewish cohousing community under development—we live out the Jewish values of chesed (kindness), tzedakah (charity), and tikkun olam (repairing the world). What better way to do so than gathering as a community and sharing warmth with a bowl of soup on a chilly day?

Are you ready to dive into our vibrant community events? Embark on your journey as an Explorer! Experience the essence of being a Berkeley Moshavnik, complete with enriching community connections. Register for an info session below to discover more!

We were proud to represent our community at the annual Z3 Conference in Palo Alto on November 17th! This inspiring event brings together Jewish leaders and professionals from around the world to engage in vital conversations about the Jewish diaspora, Israel, and building bridges across diverse Jewish communities.

At Berkeley Moshav, we’re excited to do our part by creating a space for Jewish expression and connection right here in our corner of the diaspora—a place where all Jews feel welcome and at home. It was an incredible opportunity to share our vision and connect with so many passionate individuals dedicated to strengthening Jewish life.

A Community Quilt:Crafting Love for Baby Luna

Our amazing community united to create a stunning quilt for baby Luna, the newest addition to one of our member families. Each square was lovingly crafter by different members, some incorporating Jewish themes, while others featured happy nature motifs or bright, colorful designs. Moshav Member Sharon masterfully stitched the squares together, collective love into a warm, cozy keepsake for Luna. This quilt serves as a tangible reminder of the supportive and close-knit spirit that we strive for at Berkeley Moshav, and we hope she uses it in good health.
