DEBBIE & HALDebbie is the daughter of Holocaust survivors and was born and raised in Baltimore. She and Hal met in 1976 at Johns Hopkins, where she was an undergraduate and he was a graduate student. They remained in Baltimore, where they raised their two sons.
Debbie recently retired after a long career as a psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Since retiring, she has more time for hobbies including gardening, travel, and hiking. She has a longstanding meditation practice and enjoys learning about topics related to neuroscience and philosophy. Hal grew up near Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating from Duke, he earned a PhD in physics from Johns Hopkins, where he met Debbie. He had a long and fulfilling career as a planetary astronomer, primarily studying comets and other small solar system objects. Hal enjoys staying informed about current events and spends his free time reading, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors. Hal and Debbie were considering retirement in the Bay Area and had long been interested in co-housing, so they were delighted to discover the Berkeley Moshav. After meeting many warm and engaging members of the community, they knew it was the right place for their next chapter. |
