MICHELLE BASHINSince retiring from a career in public health, my favorite new activity is volunteering at Audubon Canyon Ranch in Bolinas. There I spend the day with small groups of fifth-graders exploring the preserve. Together we hike through redwood groves, discover newts in streams and terrify tiny creatures living under logs. The kids love it. And so do I! I find introducing children to the natural world deeply fulfilling.
Living in a co-housing community has long been a dream of mine. When I was eighteen, I flew to Israel with my brother. We visited the kibbutz where he had spent the previous year. When I learned that families living there could either eat in their homes or in the communal dining hall, I loved the idea. All these years later, the thought of hanging out with friends long after a meal is over still resonates with me. I intend to make my dream of living in community come true at the Berkeley Moshav. |
